This Week’s Tailgate Interrupted By Life
Saturday is here, and the Dawgs are Between the Hedges to face Kentucky.
My kids are headed to watch the game with their dad and grandparents.
I have a short work trip that I hope will bring me home for the second half.
So, there’ s not a tailgate in my weekend plans. (Come back Sunday if you want to join my Sometimes Sunday Supper Club. There’s always room at the table!)
Typically, I love the Georgia/Kentucky matchup. Probably because of bourbon.
I have to be honest, I’m just not feeling it. Not because of last week’s loss. If the Bulldogs ever needed a supportive fan base, this would be the week. I’m with you, guys, and will be cheering you on thanks to AM radio as I drive home tomorrow afternoon listening to your game. For football, I’m in. For cooking… I’m really not.
But I had some fun menu ideas for this week! Though I won’t be cooking them now (surely these ideas will come in handy for a Christmas party soon), maybe you are still looking for some game day inspiration. If you are, scroll on. Recipe links are included.
Last week a friend sent me a picture of her granddaughter holding her version of the Peanut Butter Pie I shared. Meredith did a great job and it made my week to see her smiling face! So if you cook something fun for a game tomorrow, send me a pic. I can live vicariously!
The real reason I have to post a menu this week, is because this game led me to discover what has become my favorite cocktail ever (well, for my 40s anyway) the Kentucky Mule. I don’t pour mine in the typical copper Moscow Mule mug (though there were some really cool ones at HomeGoods today). Because I have some Derby-loving friends, I shake mine into a Julep cup, which is absolutely my favorite barware ever – because if empty, these make great vases – and we know my first and lasting love is flowers!
So, here’s what’s I was thinking would be fun for the GA/KY matchup:
Beer Cheese and Benedictine Spread with Pretzel Chips and Club Crackers
The Kentucky Mule
Whatever game you are watching, enjoy something smoky, chocolate-y, and rich – and enjoy your weekend – whatever it looks like. If last week was long, the one ahead certainly promises to be longer!
Thanks for reading and for sharing my game day fun!
